New Music We Crush #2: Lachlan Denton – Close

If dreamy guitar pop is your thing, Lachlan Denton is a name you should already know.

You’ve already heard Lachlan Denton a million times before, a solo artist in his own right he has also just put out an album with the stunning Emma Russack. He’s also the frontman of Melbourne via Wagga Wagga’s, The Ocean Party, one of the most consistently brilliant and prolific bands knocking about. Throw in playing for Ciggie Witch and managing his own label, Osbourne Again, who unsurprisingly are releasing this new track, and you can start to get and idea of just how much Lachlan Denton is a consistent and decisive figure in the Melbourne music scene.

Close comes from the new album, Two Months In Ben Woolley’s Room, due June 1st. It’s endearing and catchy. Listening to it and I’m instantly transported to everytime I’ve woken up in someone else room, where ever that may be, wrapped in sheets and starring out windows, watching sunlight touching the edges of yards hemmed with greenery, yesterdays haze still lingering. And that my friends, is a beautiful thing.  If music can take you anywhere, I know that is a place I’m happy to be.

Close feels super personal, and translucent, think luminous vocals and clean crisp guitar layers. The simple harmonies have a fragility about them and I can’t wait to hear the rest of the album. Close, is unapologetic daydream pop for the kids who play guitars.

If your looking for more of the same I strongly recommend you check out Osborne Again. Every record they put out is paradisaical, from Ciggie Witch, to Jack Lee and older stuff like Shark Alarm. Trust me, Osbourne Again, again.
